The Goal: Understand how Automated Scheduled Billing works and enable the system to automatically generate your recurring renewal invoices.
Before You Begin:
- You need access to the billing settings under Finance, Billing section.
- New customers are recommended to go through at least one billing cycle before turning on Automated Billing.
- Know that Automated Scheduled Billing is NOT Autopay. Automated Scheduled Billing automatically generates your invoices, while Autopay is automatically charging a stored payment profile. You can view Autopay Overview for more information.

Step-by-Step Instructions
-
If you wish the system to automatically generate invoices for recurring billing, go to Finance, Billing section, click Settings and select General Billing Settings, then enable the Use Automated Billing option.
- Enter the Lead Time Days. Lead time days is the number of days ahead of the Next Bill Date that invoices are created when Use Automated Billing is enabled. This lead time gives you time to review invoices, apply credits, and apply un-applied payments, etc. before sending out the invoices.
NOTE: Billings that have stored payment profiles will be charged on the actual Next Bill Date. - To send the generated invoices, go to the Pending Delivery tab under Billing to actually send the invoices, or configure your system to automatically deliver, via email, your renewal invoices.
If your billing is temporarily disabled from Onboarding, the Run Upcoming Billing and Use Automated Billing options will be grayed out. Guidance is provided under the Billing module Upcoming Billing page to complete the Billing Setup Guide and contact Support.
Common Pitfalls
- Confusing Automated Billing with Autopay: Automated Scheduled Billing only generates invoices; it does not charge stored payment profiles. Autopay handles the actual charge.
- Turning it on too early: New customers should complete at least one manual billing cycle, and finish the Billing Setup Guide, before enabling Automated Billing — otherwise the option may remain grayed out.
