Online Payment Methods Members Can Use

Updated

What this does: Explains the extra ways members can pay online with GrowthZone Pay (GZ Pay): Apple Pay, Google Pay, Stripe Link and bank payments (ACH) through Stripe Financial Connections.

Applies to: GrowthZone associations in the United States that use GZ Pay. These options show on event registrations, the online store (an add-on) and Info Hub invoice payments. They aren't available with other payment processors.

Before you start: Nothing to turn on, and there are no extra fees. Canadian customers: see Canadian GZ Pay and Stripe Requirements.

Time needed: 5 minutes to read.

Note: Members can't save Apple Pay or Google Pay as a payment method, so they can't use them for autopay. To see these buttons, members must be signed in to their Apple or Google account. Stripe draws the payment screen, and the buttons a member sees depend on their device and browser.

Available payment options

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is available in Safari for iPhone and iPad users and Macs with Touch ID. It is compatible with iOS 9 or later and macOS Sierra or later. Members must have an Apple Pay account established and be logged in to use this feature. When the member reaches checkout, the Apple Pay button appears at the top of the payment widget, above the card fields; members who are not signed in to Apple, or who are on an unsupported browser, simply will not see it.

Google Pay

Google Pay is compatible with Android devices running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or later, and with iPhones, iPads, and computers running Google Chrome. Members must have a Google Pay account and be logged in to their Google account to use this feature. As with Apple Pay, the Google Pay button appears at the top of the payment widget when the member’s device and browser support it.

Stripe Link is a secure, one-click checkout option supported by hundreds of thousands of businesses. It allows users to quickly and securely access saved payment methods in Stripe. At checkout it appears as a prompt to save the member’s details for next time, and on a return visit it pre-fills the saved email, payment and shipping details.

After a customer stores their payment profile, Link sends them a security verification email containing a short code. The email comes from Stripe rather than from GrowthZone, so its wording and appearance are outside your control and may change.

NOTE: Stripe Link transactions will show as Card Type and Card Number in the Payment Processing report and as Card Type, Card Number, and Expiration Date in the Transfers Details report.

Link makes checking out faster and easier by automatically filling in your saved email, payment, and shipping details. For more information about Stripe Link, see Link’s FAQs (Stripe website). You can also visit Link’s website (external site) for more information on Stripe Link’s simple, one-click payments.

Stripe Financial Connections (ACH)

Stripe Financial Connections allows users to securely share their financial data with your business. With one integration, you can instantly verify bank accounts for ACH payments and mitigate fraud by verifying account ownership details — all within the payment widget. The member chooses their bank from a list inside the widget and signs in to it there; they never leave the checkout.

IMPORTANT: Staff cannot enter ACH information on a customer’s behalf. Due to privacy restrictions, only customers can enter their bank information. When entered through the Info Hub, microdeposits will be verified. When entered through a module form (such as an event registration or donation), instant verification is used.

Reporting

The Payment Processing and GZ Pay Transfer Details reports display information on credit card use. Please note:

  • For the Payment Processing report, if a contact uses GZ Pay’s Stripe Link, Card Type and Card Number are shown.
  • For the GZ Pay Transfer Details report, if a contact uses GZ Pay’s Stripe Link, Card Type, Card Number, and Expiration Date are shown.
  • For both reports, we cannot report on Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  • If your payments come through a gateway other than GZ Pay, or are entered in the back office as check, cash, trade, or external payments, the Card Type and Card Number columns stay empty.

Common pitfalls

  • Apple Pay / Google Pay cannot be saved: Members expecting to use these methods for autopay or stored profiles will not be able to do so. Only cards and bank accounts via Stripe Financial Connections can be saved as payment profiles.
  • ACH entry is member-only: Staff cannot enter bank account information on behalf of a customer. If a member needs to pay by ACH, they must enter the information themselves through the Info Hub or a module form.
  • US-only features: These flexible payment options are currently only available to US customers using GrowthZone Pay.
