The Goal: Reactivate a membership that expired, was deactivated, or was dropped, restoring the member’s original membership from their record.
Before You Begin:
- Reactivation restores the member’s original membership. If you need them on a different membership type, use Upgrade a Membership or Downgrade a Membership after reactivating.
- Pay close attention to the fee items, next bill date and bill dates. If the membership was dropped for non-payment and the member has now paid, you will probably wish to extend the next bill date.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- On the member’s Overview tab, find the dropped membership in the Memberships section. A dropped membership row does not carry the ••• actions menu that active rows have — it shows three inline icons instead: Related Contacts (people), Edit Expiration Dates (pencil) and Re-Activate Membership (thumbs-up).
- Click the Re-Activate Membership (thumbs-up) icon — the right-hand icon of the three. There is no menu to open; the icon is the control.
- The membership is restored to the Memberships section. A note indicating that the membership was re-activated is automatically logged on the Communication tab.
- To review the restored fee items and billing dates, open the membership’s scheduled billing record: on the Billing Setup tab, go to Membership Scheduled Billing, or use View/Update under Scheduled Billings on the Billing tile of the Overview tab. This opens the Edit Membership Billing window, which carries the fee item row (Fee Item, Description, Class Name, Qty, Amount, Per Bill, Discount, Voluntary/Profile/Freq., Start Date, Next Bill, End Date).
- Make any needed changes. Pay close attention to the fee items and the Next Bill date. The field is labelled Next Bill on this window and Next Bill Date on the Billing Setup grid.
- Click Done.

Common Pitfalls
- Leaving the next bill date where it was: A membership dropped for non-payment comes back with its old dates. If the member has now paid, extend the next bill date before clicking Done, or they can be billed again straight away.
- Skipping the fee items: The original fee items are restored as they were. Check them against your current pricing before saving.
- Forgetting you can audit the change: The Membership Change Report may be used to view and analyze all membership changes.
