The Goal: Enable members to switch from annual to monthly payment frequency directly from the payment link in their emailed invoices.
Before You Begin:
- Your organization must be using GrowthZone Pay.
- Members must store a credit card when switching. Bank Account profiles are not supported.
Enable Switching from Annual to Monthly Payments
- Click Settings in the left-hand rail.
- Click Membership Settings in the Settings section under Memberships.
- Enable Allow Switching from Annual to Monthly.
- Click Save.
Optional: Staff can sign up to receive an email notification when a member switches from annual to monthly by subscribing to the staff notification titled "Membership Switched To Monthly Frequency." See Subscribe to Automated Staff Notifications for more information.
How Auto-switch from Annual to Monthly Works
- When Allow Switching from Annual to Monthly is enabled, members will see a Switch to Monthly payments link on the payment screen for an open membership invoice with an annual frequency.
- If the switch is selected, the member is taken to a new checkout screen displaying the recalculated monthly amount.
- On the checkout screen, the member is prompted to provide credit card information (or select a stored card) and agree to monthly terms. If voluntary fees are included on the invoice, the member can pay a voluntary amount by entering it on the selection screen; this amount will also be included in the recurring autopay.
- After checkout is complete, the member will be sent a thank-you email with details of their autopay agreement for future reference.
- In the back office, the following occurs:
- The invoice is voided and returned to the original account.
- A new invoice is created, dated today.
- An adjustment has been added to the membership activity history, with the new invoice attached.
- The previously scheduled annual billing has ended.
- A new monthly scheduled billing is created.
- The next bill date for the membership is set to the following month.
- If signed up for the staff notification "Membership Switched To Monthly Frequency," the staff member will receive an email notification.
- The invoice is voided and returned to the original account.
Common Pitfalls
- Bank account profiles not supported: Members attempting to use a bank account (ACH) for the annual-to-monthly switch will not be able to do so. Only credit cards are supported for stored payment profiles in this flow.
- GrowthZone Pay required: This feature is available only if your organization uses GrowthZone Pay as the payment processor.
