The Goal: Configure global Continuing Education settings — including expiration email timing, admin review recipients, default templates, default certification, and auto-enrollment behavior.
Before You Begin:
- Review any existing certification programs and certificate templates before adjusting defaults here — changes affect all programs that do not have a program-level override.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Go to Events & Learning, Continuing Education section, click Settings and select Certification General Settings.
- In the Continuing Education General Settings window, configure the following fields:
- Send 'Certification Expiring' Emails n Days Before Expiration: Enter the number of days before a certification expires that an automated email should be sent to the certified individual. If your certifications do not expire, leave this at 0.
- Receives Admin Review Required email: Select the list/committee that should receive a notification when an approval is needed for final certification.
- Default Certificate Template: Select the certificate template to use by default. If no certificate is selected at the program level, this default applies. If neither is set, no certificate will be automatically generated upon program completion.
- Default Certification: If you use a single general certification for all components, or primarily use one certification program, select it here. Any new component created will automatically attach to this certification. (You can override this in the Component Of field when creating individual components.)
- Enroll Attendees To All Relevant Certifications: Enable this option to automatically enroll event registrants (who register for an event with a certification component) into the associated certification program. NOTE: This setting is enabled by default.
- Click Save.
Common Pitfalls
- No certificate generated on completion: Ensure a Default Certificate Template is set here or a template is configured at the program level.
- Auto-enrollment not working: Verify Enroll Attendees To All Relevant Certifications is enabled. This setting is on by default but may have been disabled.
- Components not attaching to a certification: Set a Default Certification so new components automatically attach without manual selection each time.
