The Goal: Prepare all prerequisite items — categories, fee items, and terms & conditions — before creating a continuing education certification program so setup flows smoothly without backtracking.
Before You Begin:
- While you technically do not need to create the parts of a program/certification in a specific order, it is recommended to complete the steps below first to avoid revisiting setup after the fact.
- If you plan to charge fees for CE programs, you will need access to the Finance area (or coordinate with someone who does) to create fee items before setup.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Continuing Education Category — Creating Continuing Education Categories allows for better organization and more granular reporting. Categories can be created on the fly, but it is helpful to have them ready before setting up certification programs. See Continuing Education Categories for instructions.
- Fee Items — If you will be charging for CE programs/certifications (above and beyond an event registration fee) through GrowthZone, you will need to create fee items. Fee items must be of type Educational Registration to be available in the certification setup. See Setting up Fee Items for instructions.
-
Terms & Conditions — You can create multiple Terms & Conditions documents and display the appropriate one on each program/certification. NOTE: There is no built-in checkbox for end users to verify they have read and understood the Terms & Conditions before proceeding. The Terms & Conditions are displayed for information only.
Common Pitfalls
- Fee items not appearing in certification setup: Only fee items of type Educational Registration are available when creating a certification program. Ensure the correct type is selected when creating the fee item.
- Terms & Conditions not enforced: The Terms & Conditions field is informational only — there is no checkbox for member acknowledgment built into the certification workflow.
