The Goal: Unsubscribe a list of contacts all at once by uploading a CSV file, setting them to receive only transactional (invoicing and receipt) emails.
Before You Begin:
- You need access to the Settings for the Communication section.
- Prepare a CSV-formatted file with a column named either Email or Email Address.
- You can run a Contacts Report to generate the list, export it to Excel, remove the extraneous columns, and rename the Default Email column to just Email before saving it as a CSV file.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Sometimes it may be necessary to unsubscribe a list of contacts all at once. If this is needed, you can use the Bulk Unsubscribe option, available from the Bulk Unsubscribe page under Marketing & Communication, Communication section, Settings.
-
Go to Marketing & Communication, Communication section, click Settings, then click Bulk Unsubscribe.
- Make sure the file is prepared appropriately. This upload only supports a CSV-formatted file, and it must have a column named either Email or Email Address.
- When you upload the file using this tool, GrowthZone will match the email addresses in the file to contacts in your database, and will set those email addresses to "Only Transactional Emails," meaning they will only receive emails from GrowthZone that are related to invoicing. No communications via bulk emails, marketing automation, or lists will be sent to those contacts.
-
Once the import is complete, check one of your contact records included in the upload; their email will now display "Only Transactional Emails" and will only receive invoicing and receipt-based communications.
Common Pitfalls
- Wrong column header: The upload will not match contacts unless your CSV has a column named exactly Email or Email Address. Rename the Default Email column before saving the file.
