The Goal: Add business and individual Custom Fields to your invoice document templates so your invoices include the additional contact details you need.
Before You Begin:
- Fields must be configured as Public. See Custom Fields for information on configuration of fields.
- If the invoice is being created for a business, fields configured of type Business will be available. If the invoice is being created for an individual, fields configured of type Individual will be available.
- When adding a custom field to an invoice template, the name of the custom field must be exact. Do NOT use the Display Name.
- You will be editing an invoice template under Settings, General Settings section, Document Generation Templates. See Add Merge Fields to a Document Template for further information on editing a template and adding merge fields.
Step-by-Step Instructions
For further customization of your invoices, business and individual Custom Fields (those displayed on the More Info tabs) may be added to your documentation templates.
- Go to Settings, General Settings section, click Document Generation Templates.
- Open the invoice template you want to customize and add the desired business or individual custom field. Enter the name of the custom field exactly as configured — do NOT use the Display Name.
Example of custom fields added to an invoice template: - Click Save to finalize your changes.
Common Pitfalls
- Using the Display Name: The name of the custom field must be entered exactly as configured. Using the Display Name will cause the field to render incorrectly or not at all.
- Field not set to Public: Fields that are not configured as Public will not be available to add to the template. Confirm the field's configuration first.
