The Goal: Move every contact assigned to one category over to a different category so you can consolidate duplicates and delete the original category.
Before You Begin:
- You need staff access to manage category lists.
- Know which category you are reassigning from and which category you are reassigning to, including their category type and list.
Step-by-Step Instructions
When a category is assigned, but you realize you’ve already created a category with a similar name, you may want to move everyone in that original category and assign them the new name so you can delete the original category.
- Go to Settings, General Settings section, click Category Lists.
Click the down arrow next to the Add button and select Reassign Category.
In the Category Reassign window, select your options:
- Select the desired Category Type from the list.
- Select the desired Category List from the list.
- Select the category that you wish to reassign from the Category list.
- Select the category that you wish to reassign to from the Category list in the New Category section.
- Click Done.
Common Pitfalls
- Reassigning in the wrong direction: Double-check which category is the source (Category) and which is the destination (New Category) before clicking Done — the move cannot be undone with a single click, and you would have to reassign everyone back manually.
