The Goal: Apply an updated project template to an existing project so that any new tasks added to the template are pulled into the project without duplicating tasks that are already there.
Before You Begin:
- You have already updated a project template and added the new tasks you want to push out.
- You have an existing project that was created from (or should match) that template. The system compares task names: it will not re-add tasks that already exist, but it will add any new template tasks that are not yet in your project.
Step-by-Step Instructions
If you have updated a project template and added tasks, you can apply that template to an existing project to pull in the new tasks. The system will look to see if there are existing tasks with the same name and will not add those, but it will add any new tasks that are on the template but don't exist in your project. This makes updating projects much easier when you are still getting your project template(s) finalized.
- Go to Home, My workspace section, click Projects.
- Open the existing project you want to update.
- Apply the updated template to the project. The system adds any new template tasks and skips any tasks whose names already exist in the project.
- Click Save to finalize your changes.
Common Pitfalls
- Renamed tasks create duplicates: Matching is by task name. If you renamed a task in either the template or the project, the system treats it as new and will add a second copy. Confirm task names match before applying the template.
