Before You Begin:
- You need access to Marketing & Communication, Communication section, Email Designer.
- Have an Email Designer template or newsletter open and ready to edit so you can drag the Button tool onto it.
Email Designer Tools are basic content elements that are used to design your templates. Text, images, and buttons are some examples of the built-in tools. To start using these tools, you will simply drag them into your newsletter to add content. Content formatting options are displayed when a tool is added to your document.
This article will cover the Button tool.

Step-by-Step Instructions: The Button Tool
The Button tool can be used to drive your readers to action. Perhaps you want to send the reader to your events page, or even a fundraiser page. By using this tool you can send the reader to these external links. Alternately, buttons may be used to send an email, dial a phone number, or even send an SMS.
- In the Email Designer, locate the Button tool in the Standard Tools panel.
- Drag & Drop the Button onto your newsletter where you want it to appear.
- Style the button using the formatting options that display when the tool is added to your document.
- Configure the desired action for the button — send the reader to an external link, send an email, dial a phone number, or send an SMS.
Common Pitfalls
- Forgetting to configure the button action: After you drag the Button tool onto your newsletter, set the desired action (external link, email, phone, or SMS). A button with no action assigned will not drive readers anywhere.
