The Goal: Understand the two approaches for handling a single event that grants credits for multiple components — ensuring each attendee receives only the credit(s) appropriate to their session.
Before You Begin:
- Attaching multiple components directly to a single event will grant all credits to all attendees — which is not the desired behavior when different attendees should receive different credits. Use one of the two approaches below to handle this correctly.
Option A: Expo Module (Sessions)
If you subscribe to the Expo module, you can enable Sessions for your event. Each session gets its own component. When registrants register, they select the appropriate session to receive the credit for that component.
-
Set up your event.
- Set up a timeslot.
-
Create individual sessions — one session for each component/credit to be granted. Attach the appropriate component to each session.
- When registrants register, they select the desired session to receive the credit for that component.
- When the event/session is completed, mark the registrant as completed in the session (not just the event) to grant the appropriate credit.
- On the Sessions/Breakouts tab, click the number of registrations for a session to open the Session Attendees window. Use Set All to Attended, or manually set each attendee's status as appropriate.
Option B: No Expo Module (Separate Events)
If you do not have the Expo module, the only solution is to set up separate, concurrent events — each with its own component. This is the only way to grant attendees the proper credit for their attendance.
If you would like more information on the Expo module, please contact the Account Management team.
Common Pitfalls
- Marking attended at the event level instead of the session level: When using sessions, credit is only granted when the registrant is marked as attended within the session, not at the top-level event. Always mark attendance in the session.
- Attaching multiple components directly to one event: This grants all credits to all attendees regardless of which session they attended. Always use sessions (Option A) or separate events (Option B) when multiple distinct credits are involved.
