Creating new organizations and memberships
When setting up a new organization, the order you do things in matters. If you create a new org, assign individuals to it, and then apply memberships all at once, the sync may not send the contacts over in the right order. When that happens, the org/individual relationship might not get created in DataRec—which can cause the DataRec-to-GZ sync to break that relationship.
The same applies to Parent/Child org relationships and their associated individuals.
For best results, follow this order:
- Create the Parent organization and assign it a membership.
- Wait for the Parent org to receive its National ID.
- Once the National ID is in place, start adding individuals and Child organizations.
Using the Contact Merge feature
The Contact Merge feature in GZ should generally work as expected. In most cases, merging into the destination record will be fine, regardless of status. Here's what happens behind the scenes:
- We'll use the destination record's National ID and send a delete request for the record marked as isDeleted.
- If the record being deleted isn't an active member in GZ, we won't send anything. In those cases, you may need to clean up that record directly in DataRec, since we aren't able to do it for you.
- Occasionally, DataRec won't honor our delete request because the record falls into a special category. Unfortunately, there's no way for us to know in advance which records these are.
