The Goal: Tie one or more benefit items to your paid event registration types so that eligible members automatically receive the correct registration discount or free registration when they sign up.
Before You Begin:
- Create your event registration types first (see Setup Event Registration Fees). When you create a registration type, you will have the option to select the Benefit Item to be tied to a registration fee.
- Note: Benefit Items can only be tied to Paid registrations.
- You can choose multiple benefit items for one registration type — for example, one membership may receive a free registration while another gets 50% off.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- When you create or edit a registration type, select the Benefit Item associated with the registration fee. You can assign multiple benefit items to a single registration type.
- To let registrants receive benefits by matching their email address, enable the Event Benefits applied with email address match setting. Go to Memberships, Benefits section, click Settings. When this setting is enabled, registrants only need to match their email address when registering in order to receive the benefits (see the linked article for more information).
-
The benefit will be automatically applied to eligible registrants when they log in to register for the event.
-
When members register for your event and have been given a benefit item, the system will recognize this and display it on the registration page, as shown below.
Can my staff register on behalf of someone and apply their benefit item discount?
Yes. Staff can use the option to impersonate that individual in the Info Hub; registering for the event from the Info Hub allows you to fully authenticate as that individual without knowing their login and password. This method of registering will grant any appropriate benefit item discounts.
Common Pitfalls
- Tying a benefit to a free registration: Benefit Items can only be tied to Paid registrations. If a registration type has no fee, you cannot assign a benefit item to it.
