The Goal: Answer common questions about refunds made through GrowthZone Pay or NAR Ecommerce: what happens to processing fees, and what to do if a refund was issued by mistake.
Before You Begin:
- For the steps to issue a refund, see Refund a payment.
Do we get the transaction fees back when we refund a payment?
- GrowthZone Pay: No. The customer is refunded the full amount, and the transaction fees from the original sale aren’t reimbursed to your organization.
- NAR Ecommerce: No. A full refund costs the association the transaction fee on the original purchase, because the full charge is refunded, not the charge minus fees.
Factor this into refund decisions and let your finance team know.
What if the exchange rate changed since a non-USD payment?
The refund matches the original transaction amount, not the current exchange rate.
Can we cancel a GrowthZone Pay refund we created by mistake?
No. Once a GrowthZone Pay refund is started, it can’t be canceled. To recover the money, create a new charge for the customer for the refunded amount.
Common Pitfalls
- Expecting fees back: your organization absorbs the original transaction fees on every refund.
- Refunding the wrong payment: there’s no undo. Check the payment and amount before clicking Done.
