The Goal: Walk through a minimal continuing education setup to track and report on accumulated hours/credits from components — with no fees, categories, objectives, prerequisites, or completion tracking required.
This Setup Assumes:
- No customization of program or component certificates
- No fees being charged
- No objectives being used
- No categories being used
- No prerequisites being used
- No Terms & Conditions applied
- No need to track "completion" of the certification — only accumulated hours/credits
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Create the certification "program". The program serves as the "bucket" that all components will be collected in. Go to Events & Learning, Continuing Education section, click Certifications, then click Add.
- Set the certification program as default in Continuing Education General Settings. Go to Events & Learning, Continuing Education section, click Settings and select Certification General Settings. Set the Default Certification to the program you just created, then click Save.
-
Create Components. You can do this in one of two ways:
- Go to Events & Learning, Continuing Education section, click Components and create them in advance.
- Or add components to events on-the-fly when setting up individual events.
Did you know? With a certification program set as default, components added via events will automatically attach to that certification. - Add components to events (if you created them in advance). Open each event and use the Continuing Education section on the event's Overview tab to attach the component. See Associate Continuing Education Components to Events for details.
-
Check in event attendees and/or mark them as attended.
IMPORTANT! GrowthZone will only track credits/hours for contacts in the database. Match contacts in events prior to check-in to ensure credits/hours are recorded correctly.Once the attendee is marked as attended, the credits/hours will be recorded in the certification and progress will be visible to the member via the Info Hub (if enabled).
Common Pitfalls
- Hours not recorded: Ensure attendees are matched to contacts before marking as attended. Unmatched registrants will not receive credit.
- Components not attached to the certification: Set a Default Certification in General Settings so components attach automatically.
